Of all things, it was a kick in the gut that inspired Saint Belford.

In early 2017, Alex Phillips experienced a serious case of burnout (self inflicted) that rendered her unfit for work. It was the mother of all stop signs and a genuine blessing in disguise.

“I was cramming far too much into my day and treating my body like an industrial machine, striving to make each moment a productive one. Naturally, it took a toll on me physically and mentally”.

It was only after a few emotional meltdowns and a nasty case of gastritis that Alex came to terms with the facts:

…Her priorities were not in order. Far from it actually!

On a mission to create something that would really make a difference in people’s lives, the ultimate aim for Alex was to remind people how to put themselves first – to make their wellbeing a priority – to remind them that making their health and wellbeing #1 is the best investment they will ever make.

As the New Year draws to an end, it’s a great time to think ahead about your goals for New Year (albeit the Christmas chaos). Here, Alex’s shares her top 5 tip as to why keeping a journal could change your life.

Prioritise your wellbeing (by default). Become a better version of yourself than the day before by keeping self-care on top of your to-do list. Whether that is scheduling time to unplug, move your body or practise mindfulness, journalling is an incredibly beneficial self-care technique, which doesn’t just enhance feelings of happiness, but helps to reduces stress, clarifies thoughts and feelings, and ultimately helps you get to know yourself better.

Mindful management. Whether it’s planning your weekly meals, reviewing your goals, or establishing priorities for the week, spelling it out allows you to ultimately begin each week productively, with a renewed sense of purpose.

Take charge. Set your intentions, debunk your fears and consciously create the life you desire.

Clarify your intentions to help drive you forward and keep your mission alive, especially if the need to correct your course arises.

Build habits that stick. Obstacles and setbacks are inevitable, however the discipline to overcome the challenges is key. Having a dedicated space to help you define, clarify and track your newly established routines and rituals will help to and new and improved habits.
